Prepare for under-sink water filter installation with the complete kit, clear cabinet space and a proposed drinking-water tap position. For reverse osmosis, check the manual for any tank, waste-connection and power requirements. For the service and its scope, compare water filter installation services in Sydney.
Who can connect an under-sink filter in NSW?
Connecting a filter to your water supply is plumbing work. NSW requires the appropriate licence or certificate for plumbing work, regardless of the job’s cost. The NSW Government’s plumbing licensing guidance explains the work categories and supervision rules. You can check a tradesperson’s licence through Service NSW.
TapLife’s service is installation by a licensed plumber. The checks below help you prepare for that visit; leave the water and waste connections to the plumber.
Have the model and its kit ready
Keep the model number, installation manual and supplied parts together. Confirm whether your kit is a cartridge system or reverse osmosis, and whether it includes a separate drinking-water tap. A photo of the complete kit and the cabinet helps us check the proposed installation before you book.
- Cartridge systems: check the housing or manifold dimensions and the clearance the manufacturer needs to change cartridges.
- Reverse osmosis: check the system dimensions, any separate tank, the supplied tap and the manufacturer’s waste-connection requirements. Tell us if the model requires power.
- Parts: keep the supplied fittings and tubing with the system rather than mixing them with parts from another kit.
Still choosing a system? Browse under-sink water filters with installation. Use the reverse osmosis buying guide for model differences, or the under-sink versus whole-house comparison to decide which part of your home’s water supply you want filtered.
Clear the cabinet and check the tap position
Empty the working area under the sink before the visit. Make room for the system, any tank and future cartridge changes. Keep the existing plumbing accessible, and show us where bins, drawers or other fittings may limit the space.
If the kit has a dedicated drinking-water tap, confirm the proposed position and tell us the sink or benchtop material. The installation service includes tap-hole drilling in stainless steel or laminate. Check other materials and any non-standard work with us before booking; don’t assume a different surface is included.
Check what the installation includes
The Bring Your Own under-sink filter service covers mounting the system, a cold-water tee and independent isolation valve, standard fittings and tubing, fitting the supplied drinking-water tap, and the RO drain connection where required. The plumber flushes, commissions and leak-tests the system and removes the packaging.
You supply the filter system. Installation for a system you already own is $230. If you buy the system from TapLife, installation is $200 plus the system’s price. See the under-sink installation cost guide for the price breakdown and scope rather than treating the installation fee as a supplied-and-installed total.
Confirm these details before booking
- The exact model and whether the complete kit has arrived.
- Cabinet space, access and the proposed tap position and surface material.
- Any RO tank, waste-connection or power requirements in the model’s manual.
- Your postcode and whether the installation fits the published service scope.
We install across most of Sydney metro. Start at the water filter installation page to choose the appropriate service, then use the postcode check. Tell us about unusual access or extra work before booking so its scope and price can be agreed before it starts.
