TapLife referral terms
Short, and deliberately blunt about the parts that could cost you money.
What you earn
We pay you $10 for every installation that is completed and paid for by a customer you referred. It is a flat amount. It does not change with the size of the job, and there is no cap on how many you can earn.
How a referral is counted
You get a personal link. If someone opens it and then places an order within 30 days, on the same device and browser, that order is attributed to you.
Being straight about the limits, because they are real:
- Attribution rides on a cookie. If the customer clears their cookies, orders from a different device, or uses private browsing, we will not see your link and the order will not be counted.
- If someone opens your link and then opens a different referrer’s link before ordering, the most recent one is counted. That is the rule in both directions — it can win you an order as easily as lose you one.
- We do not claim this proves you caused the sale. It is simply the rule we both agree to work to.
If you think an order should have been yours and was not, reply to your referral email and tell us roughly when and what. We will look at the order and tell you either way. We would rather pay a fair claim than argue about a cookie.
When the fee is earned
A referral becomes payable when the installation has been carried out and the customer’s payment has settled — not when the order is placed.
The reason is simple: TapLife sells a licensed plumber’s time. An order that is placed and then cancelled has produced nothing, so there is nothing to share. In practice TapLife installs within about a week of ordering, so this is a short wait, and your dashboard shows the order as pending the whole time so you are never in the dark.
No fee is payable where an order is cancelled, fails, or is refunded in full. A partial refund does not affect your fee — if the job happened, you earned it.
If an order is delayed because a product is on back-order or TapLife cannot get to it, that is our problem and not yours. Your referral does not expire because we were slow.
Getting paid
Payment timing is arranged with you directly when you join — ask and we will tell you plainly. Your dashboard always shows what is earned and unpaid, so the amount is never in dispute even before a payment date is agreed.
Payments are made by hand, by bank transfer. Every payment appears on your dashboard with the date, the amount and a reference, so what we say we paid and what you received are the same record.
Tax
The GST treatment of your fee is confirmed with you in writing before your first payment. Ask us and we will tell you plainly — we would rather agree it up front than surprise you with a different number later.
If you are referring to us as part of a business, please give us your ABN. Where an ABN is required and has not been supplied, Australian tax law may oblige us to withhold tax from the payment and send it to the ATO. If that ever applies we will show you the gross amount, what was withheld and what you were paid — never a quietly smaller number. If you are not carrying on a business, there is a standard ATO form you can complete instead and we will send it to you.
We are not able to give you tax advice about your own circumstances.
How you may and may not promote TapLife
These are not box-ticking. Breaking them puts a licensed trade business at legal risk, so they end the arrangement.
- Tell people it is a paid referral. When you recommend us, say plainly that you may be paid if they book. Australian consumer law expects commercial relationships to be disclosed at the point of the recommendation. We also tell the customer at checkout, but that is too late to be your disclosure.
- No unsolicited email or messaging. Do not send bulk email, SMS or messages to people who have not asked to hear from you, and never to a bought or scraped list. Australian spam law applies to whoever sends or authorises the message.
- Do not present yourself as TapLife. No pages, profiles, ads or emails that look like they come from us.
- No paid search on our name. Do not bid on “TapLife” or close variants. You would be charging us to reach customers who were already looking for us.
- No cookie stuffing or forced clicks. Attribution has to come from a person choosing to click.
- Do not promise anything on our behalf — no prices, timeframes or guarantees other than what is published on our site.
Referring your own orders, or orders for your own household, does not earn a fee.
Ending the arrangement
Either of us can stop at any time. If we stop your account, new clicks stop counting from that moment, but anything you have already earned is still owed to you and will still be paid. Stopping an account and refusing earned money are two different things, and we only do the first.
Changes
If we change these terms, referrals already attributed keep the terms they were placed under. Your dashboard records which version applied.
